Klaviyo bounce and complaint limits
From Klaviyo's own help center and policies, checked November 1, 2026.
| Metric | Limit | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Bounce, spam and unsubscribe rates | No published number | Klaviyo notifies senders when performance indicates potential abuse; repeated problems with hard bounces, unsubscribes or spam complaints can lead to account disablement. Source |
| Deliverability score | 0 to 100 | Scored from the last 30 days of opens, clicks, bounces, unsubscribes and spam. Alerts for high bounce or spam rates start after 1,000 emails in 30 days. Source |
| Open rate | Above 33% | Klaviyo's published benchmark for healthy campaigns. Source |
How Klaviyo handles bounces and imports
- Hard-bounced addresses are suppressed automatically and removed from every list they are on.
- An address that soft bounces 7 consecutive times is suppressed. Only soft bounces in the past 2 years count, and a successful delivery resets the streak.
- Klaviyo's Acceptable Use Policy prohibits purchased, rented, borrowed and third-party lists without consent.
- The same policy prohibits cycling a list through several sending platforms to purge bounces and complaints. Verify inside your own account before you send instead.
Clean your Klaviyo list with the integration
No exports. Results are written straight back to Klaviyo.
- 1
In RocketVerifier, open Dashboard, Integrations, Klaviyo, paste a Klaviyo private API key and click Connect. The key is checked before anything is saved.
- 2
Choose all profiles or a single list.
- 3
Turn on write-back: store status, sub-status, score and date as profile properties, and suppress undeliverable addresses.
- 4
Preview the breakdown, then sync now or on a schedule.
- 5
In Klaviyo, build segments on the RocketVerifier properties, for example status equals deliverable.
Or clean it by file
- 1
In Klaviyo, open Audience, Lists and segments, open the list, then Manage list and Export to CSV.
- 2
Upload the CSV to RocketVerifier as a bulk job and download the results.
- 3
Back in Klaviyo, open the list, then Manage list and Import contacts. Upload the file with the result columns mapped to profile properties. Choose to import only the consent in your file so existing consent is kept.
What to keep and what to remove
| Status | Sub-status | Action |
|---|---|---|
| deliverable | none, alias | Keep and send. |
| risky | catch_all, send_safe | Keep and send. |
| risky | catch_all, send_with_caution | Send to engaged contacts, or in smaller batches. |
| risky | role_based, mailbox_full | Keep only if they opted in and engage. |
| risky | catch_all avoid, possible_trap, toxic | Remove. |
| undeliverable | any | Unsubscribe or suppress. |
| unknown | greylisted, blocked, smtp_timeout | Hold and re-verify later. Never charged. |
Tips for Klaviyo
- Verify signup sources at the form with RocketShield so bad addresses never become profiles.
- Exclude catch-all avoid and role_based profiles from your highest-volume campaigns.
- Re-verify inactive segments before a win-back campaign; old addresses are the ones that bounce.
