Brevo bounce and complaint limits
From Brevo's own help center and policies, checked November 1, 2026.
| Metric | Limit | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Hard bounce rate | Above 2% | Can suspend campaigns and the account. Source |
| Unsubscribe rate | Above 1% | Can suspend campaigns and the account. Source |
| Complaint rate | Above 0.2% | Can suspend campaigns and the account. Source |
| Campaigns to new contacts | Sampled within 1 to 3 hours | Brevo checks engagement on a random subset; poor results suspend the campaign and the account. Source |
How Brevo handles bounces and imports
- Hard-bounced addresses are blocklisted automatically.
- A campaign address that soft bounces five times in a row is blocklisted. Deferred mail is retried for 36 hours before it counts as a soft bounce.
- Scraped, acquired or purchased lists conflict with Brevo's anti-spam policy.
- After a suspension, Brevo asks you to clean the database before reactivation, and a repeat suspension can lead to deactivation.
Clean your Brevo list with the integration
No exports. Results are written straight back to Brevo.
- 1
In RocketVerifier, open Dashboard, Integrations, Brevo, paste a Brevo API key and click Connect.
- 2
Choose all contacts or any list.
- 3
Turn on write-back: results go into contact attributes, and undeliverable addresses are blocklisted.
- 4
Preview the breakdown, then sync now or on a schedule.
Or clean it by file
- 1
In Brevo, open Contacts, select all contacts or a list, then More actions and Export. Download the file from the notifications bell.
- 2
Upload it to RocketVerifier as a bulk job and download the results.
- 3
Back in Brevo, use Import contacts with the result columns mapped to attributes. Include the contact ID to update existing contacts instead of creating duplicates.
What to keep and what to remove
| Status | Sub-status | Action |
|---|---|---|
| deliverable | none, alias | Keep and send. |
| risky | catch_all, send_safe | Keep and send. |
| risky | catch_all, send_with_caution | Send to engaged contacts, or in smaller batches. |
| risky | role_based, mailbox_full | Keep only if they opted in and engage. |
| risky | catch_all avoid, possible_trap, toxic | Remove. |
| undeliverable | any | Unsubscribe or suppress. |
| unknown | greylisted, blocked, smtp_timeout | Hold and re-verify later. Never charged. |
Tips for Brevo
- Verify every new import before its first campaign. That first send is the one Brevo samples.
- Keep a list of only deliverable and send_safe contacts for new-contact campaigns.
- If a campaign was suspended, verify the new-contacts segment Brevo provides and remove what fails before you ask for reactivation.
